Following reports by prospective candidates and their parents over paying more than N3,500 for the 2019 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination,UTME the Joint admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB through its spokesperson Dr Fabian Benjamin has made clarifications concerning the actual cost of the registration.
According to Dr Fabian Benjamin, the actual cost for registration is N3,500 but candidates have to pay extra N1,200 which covers the reading text: Sweet Sixteen (N500) and CBT Centre fee (700) bringing the total amount to N4,700.
He said candidates prior to the reduction in cost paid N6,200 in total but now pay only 4,700 and that CBT centres charging above N4,700 at the present were punished.
Some prospective candidates for the 2019 UTME who were interviewed, confirmed that they actually paid N4,700 for the entire registration process.
A candidate however, said she was surprised that the fee was increased from N3,500, which she had budgeted for to a much higher amount. She added that though the manager of the CBT centre she went to warned that no more money should be given to the computer operators, yet some of them will first attend to those who had greased their palms.
